Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper (Feb. 16, 2024)

Due to the snowstorm on Shrove Tuesday, February 13 we made the wise choice to postpone our pancake supper until Friday, February 16. Our kitchen was full of volunteers cooking bacon and sausage, preparing coffee and the fixings and creating blueberry, chocolate chip and plain pancakes, preparing and organizing our tables in anticipation of our customers.

We had a great turnout with two families not from our church who joined us and appeared to have an enjoyable time.

Net income from the supper was $345. Kevin Sweet the next day happily headed off to Costco and was able to purchase a great supply of food for MUMC’s food pantry. All was blessed during worship on Sunday.

Thanks to all who supported this event in any way. I feel safe saying it was a good time had by all!!!

Super Bowl Grinder Sales (Feb. 11, 2024)

You may know that the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl, but do you know who won the Grinder Super Bowl? That would be Meatball, beating the Italian Stallion by a score of 14 to 10. The Tom Brady came in third (not surprising, right?) with 9 orders. Fun fact: the turkey grinder is named a Tom Brady because the year we started selling grinders, there was a viral video of Tom dressing up like a turkey and jumping out of the leaves to surprise his children. Maybe he should have been focused on football a little more?

On another note, the $20 behemoth called the King of Italy (which has half a pound of di Parma Prosciutto on each sandwich) came out of the huddle strong with 2 orders, both going to people named Austin. We’re still waiting for confirmation that Don and Skyler somehow managed to finish those. More pics to be posted next month? The good news is that we only had one foul this year (where we somehow forgot the meat on a sandwich). I think we had 2 last year, so our defense improved by 100%! This is what we get for putting rookie sandwich makers into the big game. We sent in a replacement at halftime and got that straightened out, so no permanent fouls were committed.

And while our regular players (lettuce, tomato and mayo) gave us some excellent minutes (they participated in about 2/3 of the game), yellow mustard really let us down, participating in just half a sandwich. I think if yellow mustard’s performance doesn’t improve next year, we really have to consider benching him.

After all the celebration, UM ARMY took in $405 in profit, all due to the generosity of the fans of the UM ARMY Grinder Super Bowl and E&D Pizza of Avon (who donated all the rolls).

Thanks to everyone who participated and see you next year.
