Our Philosophy & Goals

We believe that children are made in the image of God and are given the capacity to create. We encourage creativity through art, music, drama, and play. Creativity expands imagination and develops children’s confidence in their abilities.
Children learn best through experience. We provide a safe, nurturing environment, with a variety of activities to stimulate learning and curiosity. Children become aware of letters, numbers and name writing through developmentally appropriate activities. By providing choices, we help children learn to make decisions and develop respect for others. Our goal is for children to embrace new situations with confidence.

Curriculum for two-year-olds

We provide a variety of experiences by offering exposure to small group activity, opportunities to learn about sharing, cooperating and playing side-by-side with other children.

We present materials to encourage free and creative expression.  The children use paints, glue, markers, puzzles, crayons, scissors, etc.  They also sing, dance, march and play instruments.  We provide books for independent exploration, and the children are read to regularly.  Water play, sand, play dough and outdoor play are part of our daily routine.

Our goal is to provide a safe and creative environment, which will encourage your child’s development.

Curriculum for three & four-year-olds

Our approach is to use developmentally appropriate activities which encourage hands-on experiences.  We believe that children learn best when they are allowed to explore their environment.  Incorporated into our curriculum are language, reading, math and science readiness skills.

We give time to the unique qualities of each child.  We talk about senses (touch, sound, sight, taste and smell), feelings, making choices and conflict resolution.  We believe that free expression through art, music and movement is vital to the development of each child’s personality.

Curriculum for Pre-K

Learning through play will take center stage while ensuring a strong academic foundation as your child prepares for kindergarten.

Our program will align with Connecticut state standards and provide dedicated time for students to explore all core areas of academics including literacy, math and science. With a small class size of only ten students, we can provide an individualized learning environment and create meaningful enrichment opportunities.

We are excited for you to join us on this journey of exploration and discovery.

Fostering Respect:
At Churchery School, children spend time practicing respect for other people. Class begins by reciting the “Kindness Pledge.” Our teachers guide the children in working through difficulties and how to express emotions in a healthy, constructive manner.

The Kindness Pledge:
I pledge to myself on this day
To try to be kind in every way
To every person, big and small
I will help them one and all
When I love myself and others too
That is the best that I can do.
