Paul Oscar Anderson, age 93, of Farmington and West Hartford, CT and Waitsfield, VT, passed away on June 9, 2025, at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT. His family was at his side. For the last year, Paul resided at The Greens at Cannondale in Wilton, CT.

Paul “Swede” was born in Hartford, CT to Mabel and Oscar Anderson and grew up in the Forestville section of Bristol, CT, attending Bristol High School. He graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in 1953. He is predeceased by his parents and the love of his life, Jean Anderson.

While working at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford, he met his manager, Jean Sanders. Five years later they were married. They made their home in Bristol, CT, moving to Farmington in 1971. Paul spent his entire career at Aetna in the Group Department. He also had a multitude of interests. Paul was an avid golf and tennis player. He loved basketball and hiking. Jean taught him to love skiing. He maintained a vegetable garden until 2024, helping other people with theirs. He sang in his church choir his entire life, the Insurance City Chorus, and with Hartford Men in Harmony barbershop singers and the McAuley Chorus. He sang with the chorus of The Greens at Cannondale this past year, participating in two concerts and in rehearsal for a third. He was an honored volunteer and leader, serving his church, the Forestville Cemetery Association, the Farmington Exchange Club, the Farmington Board of Education, Bates College, Habitat for Humanity, and his residence community at the McAuley in West Hartford. Everything Paul did connected him to a splendid abundance of friends who were like a team to him. He was especially grateful for his team of caregivers at The Greens. He cared about everyone, asked many questions, listened to their stories, offered bits of advice, enjoyed a good joke and many laughs.

Paul loved time with his family, including all dogs. He enthusiastically supported his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching their lives unfold. He is survived by his daughter, Sally Anderson of Stamford, CT, and her children Emily and Spencer Lambdin, and his son, David Anderson and his wife Karen of Westborough, MA, and their children Sara and Eric Anderson, as well as his cousin, Judith Jackson and several nieces and nephews.
