DESCRIPTION:Meeting Date: Quarterly\, 3rd Thursday of Jan.\, Apr.\, July\, and Oct.\nTime: 7:15 pm\nLocation: Palor and Zoom \nAbout the committee: \nThe following are some key duties of the SPR committee. Most are taken from the UMC Book of Discipline\, but not all are listed\, and some are specific to MUMC. \n\nTo encourage\, strengthen\, nurture\, support\, and respect the pastor and staff and their family(s).\nTo develop and approve written job descriptions within employee agreements. To maintain the Personnel\, Policies & Procedures Employee Handbook. Ensure these documents are signed upon hire\, annually and when any changes. Keep these and other SPR documents in locked church file cabinet.\nTo confer with\, consult\, and counsel the pastor and staff on matters pertaining to priorities in the use of their gifts\, skills\, time; and priorities for the demands and effectiveness of the mission and ministry of the congregation.\nTo provide evaluation at least annually for the use of the pastor and staff in an ongoing effective ministry and for identifying continuing educational needs and plans. Keep written record of evaluations.\nThe committee shall cooperate with the pastor\, the district superintendent\, and the bishop in securing clergy leadership. Its relationship to the district superintendent and the bishop shall be advisory only. NYAC determines our pastor appointment\, starting salary\, travel/moving requirement\, vacation/spiritual renewal time-off\, health and life insurance\, pension\, housing requirement. We can decide salary increase. SPRC confers with the pastor and/or other appointed members of the staff if it should become evident that the best interests of the charge and pastor will be served by a change of pastor. -The committee and the pastor shall have the authority to hire\, contract\, evaluate\, promote\, retire\, and dismiss non appointed personnel\, but shall keep informed the Church Council regarding such matters. SPR will seek approval and direction from Church Council for any employment changes that affects church function\, ministry\, unity\, etc. SPR will seek approval from Finance committee for any salary changes to the budget.\nMembers of the committee shall keep themselves informed of personnel matters in relationship to the Church’s policy\, professional standards\, liability issues\, and civil law. They are responsible for communicating and interpreting such matters to staff.\n\nChairperson serves as a member of the Church Charge Conference and Church Council.

DESCRIPTION:Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting\nMeeting Date: Every Wednesday and Saturday (Open Meeting)\nTime: 8:00 pm\nLocation: Fellowship Hall \nAlcoholics Anonymous (AA) was founded in America in 1935 by Bill Wilson (Bill W.) and Robert Smith (Dr. Bob). Two centuries earlier\, John Wesley\, the founder of Methodism\, established Methodist penitent bands in England\, which organized on Saturday nights\, the evening on which members of these small groups were most tempted to frequent alehouses.  The hymns and teaching provided during these meetings addressed the issues the members faced\, thus the connection between these bands and the current practices of AA. \nIn addition\, other Avon locations for AA meetings are available\, one at the Avon Center Congregational Church each morning at 7:00 AM\, and also on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 PM at the West Avon Congregational Church on Country Club Road. \nIf you know of anyone who would benefit from participating in any of these meetings\, please have them contact any of the three churches mentioned.  AA is truly a lifesaving program that has stood the test of time.

DESCRIPTION:Here for you in your time of loss\nDate: 3rd Wednesday of each month (except for July and August)\nTime: 10:00 am to 11:30 am\nWho: All bereaved members of the community\nLocation: Parlor and Zoom \nThe MUMC Bereavement Support Group is comprised of members whose spouse or partner has died. Everyone grieves differently and in their own way\, and the Support Group provides a safe place for members to share each other’s experiences\, concerns\, and emotions that may be causing pain. It is a time set aside for the grieving person to process their own personal grief\, away from the day-to-day frustrations and interruptions we all experience. The fundamental benefit of the Bereavement Support Group is knowing you are not alone\, and Christ is always with you. \nAllen Nixon facilitates each meeting and Pastor Lee attends to give us Christian guidance. Serves as member of Church Council. \nCurrent Treasurer disburses all money contributed to causes represented in the local church budget and other funds as the Church Council may determine; reports each month to the Church Council all church funds received and expended. Serves as member of Church Council. Position of Current Treasurer is a paid part time position of our church. \nPlans and promotes a comprehensive program of stewardship through educating and engaging church members in the principles of Christian stewardship so that they contribute their time\, talents\, and treasures to MUMC\, making the church and its community better over time; interprets the biblical and theological basis for stewardship; promotes giving consistent with a Christian lifestyle; develops funding concepts within the local church consistent with sound financial practices. \nThese goals are accomplished through the annual funding campaign\, organizing major fundraisers and articles in the newsletter.

DESCRIPTION:Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting\nMeeting Date: Every Wednesday and Saturday (Open Meeting)\nTime: 8:00 pm\nLocation: Fellowship Hall \nAlcoholics Anonymous (AA) was founded in America in 1935 by Bill Wilson (Bill W.) and Robert Smith (Dr. Bob). Two centuries earlier\, John Wesley\, the founder of Methodism\, established Methodist penitent bands in England\, which organized on Saturday nights\, the evening on which members of these small groups were most tempted to frequent alehouses.  The hymns and teaching provided during these meetings addressed the issues the members faced\, thus the connection between these bands and the current practices of AA. \nIn addition\, other Avon locations for AA meetings are available\, one at the Avon Center Congregational Church each morning at 7:00 AM\, and also on Tuesday evenings at 8:00 PM at the West Avon Congregational Church on Country Club Road. \nIf you know of anyone who would benefit from participating in any of these meetings\, please have them contact any of the three churches mentioned.  AA is truly a lifesaving program that has stood the test of time.
