Memorial Service for Jean Anderson

A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11 am, at Memorial United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to attend as we remember her beautiful life and celebrate all her incredible accomplishments. Please join us in sharing your favorite memories of Jean.

Jean Sanders Anderson of Farmington and West Hartford, CT and Waitsfield, VT, passed away on June 3, 2024 at UCONN – John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT. She was 94. Family and friends were at her side during her final hours. Jean was born in Newport, VT on the Canadian border. She was a proud Vermonter–appreciating the mountains, farmland and seasons of her home state. Jean’s family moved to East Hartford, CT during the Great Depression. After graduating from East Hartford High School, Jean began her career with Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford. She was an enthusiastic member of the Mountain Laurel Ski Club and was a dedicated traveler – touring Europe 3 times before the age of 30 and just after the conclusion of WWII. While working at the Aetna she became the manager of Paul O. Anderson, and 5 years later they were married. They made their home in Bristol, CT until moving to Farmington in 1971. Jean devoted her post-career life to lovingly nurturing her family, supporting her church, enjoying the company of friends and planning fun adventures. As a volunteer for Services for the Elderly in Farmington, Jean coordinated medical rides for Farmington residents for many years. She excelled in the needle arts, made delicious desserts and was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed theater and music and was her husband’s most ardent supporter at his many musical events. Jean is predeceased by her parents Hazel Griffin Sanders and Robert Rogers Sanders, her sister Patricia Reid and her brother Eldon Sanders. Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 66 years, Paul O. Anderson of Farmington and West Hartford, CT, and Waitsfield, VT, her daughter Sally Anderson of Stamford, CT and grandchildren Emily and Spencer Lambdin, and her son David Anderson, and his wife Karen of Westborough, MA and grandchildren Sara and Eric Anderson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Services for the Elderly of Farmington, CT, 321 New Britain Ave, Unionville, CT 06085 or farmingtonseniors.org.
